In Islam, women are required to cover their hair, such as by wearing the hijab. However, for some, this has resulted in problems such as dandruff and hair loss. Why does this happen?

Just like the nose, the skin on our body, including the scalp, are breathing organs. The scalp requires air to preserve moisture.

Hair that is covered all day long prevents the scalp from breathing, resulting in dandruff. For those with oily scalp, the problem is keeping their hair clean and healthy.

“This does not mean one must stop wearing the hijab, but that those who choose to wear the hijab must use special hair treatment to prevent from dandruff, hair odour and hair loss,” says Dr. Prasti Adhi Dharmasanti SpKK, skin specialist, Siloam Hospitals Surabaya.

Women who wear the hijab must to be smart in taking care of their scalp. There are many ways to do this, and one way is to clean your hair the proper way. Use a shampoo that is suitable for your scalp and your hair type.

Based on the above, we want to help Muslim women always feel cool and comfortable when adorning the hijab, i.e. by introducing our new product Veo Nanotechnology Bamboo Charcoal – “a true friend” to all hijab-wearing women.

What is Veo Nanotechnology Bamboo Charcoal Headgear?

Veo Nanotechnology Bamboo Charcoal Headgear is fabric made from yarn embedded with bamboo charcoal nano-particles. The yarn used is a combination of polyester, nylon and rayon (Tencel) and is also known as Eco-Fabric.

Veo Nanotechnology Bamboo Charcoal Headgear contains bamboo charcoal that is beneficial as an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-static and de-odorizing agent which enables the scalp to breathe. It is also thermal-regulating (ensures you feel cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather). However, eco-fabric cannot be bleached and dyed and is naturally grey in colour.

Bamboo charcoal are pieces of bamboo cut from mature bamboo trees five year old or more, which are then dried and burned in ovens at a temperature of between 800 – 1200 degrees Centigrade. It contains environmental protective benefits by reducing pollutant residue.

It is a functional environmentally-friendly material which has excellent absorption properties.

Bamboo charcoal has a long history in China. It was documented as early as 1486 during the Ming dynasty in Chuzhou Fu Zhi and in later years was also mentioned during the Qing dynasty under the reigns of emperors Kangxi, Qianlong and Guangxu.

In 1882, Thomas Alva Edison used carbonized bamboo filament for his electric lamps.

Bamboo Charcoal

Bamboo charcoal is made from fresh Moso Bamboo and is also known as “Black Diamond”. Early history records showed that bamboo charcoal was widely used in Asia, particularly in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China.

Bamboo charcoal contains high levels of minerals and has been used since the period of ancient emperors. For years, especially in Japan, bamboo charcoal has been used for various purposes – in the household, as kitchen appliances and for medication.

Process of Manufacturing Bamboo Charcoal Fabric

1. Dried bamboo from matured 4-5 year old bamboo trees are burned in ovens at a temperature of 800 – 1200 degrees Centigrade until they are reduced to charcoal.

2. The charcoal is then grounded and filtered into nano-sized particles.

3. The nano particles are evenly embedded into the fibre (without any bleach) in a closed-loop process as the yarn is extruded.

4. The fibre is then spun into yarn. The bleach which was once used in the process as a chemical agent will reduce the benefits of the eco-fabric. Eco-fabric, which is considered environmentally-friendly because of its manufacturing process and its benefits such as anti-bacterial and de-odourizing, is derived directly from the use of bamboo charcoal, unlike other fabrics which relay on chemicals.

VEO Nanotechnology Bamboo Charcoal Headgear gives comfort and other health benefits to women, especially Muslim women wearing the hijab. Veo is now available to complete your Hijab look!
